Right Brain vs. Left Brain

I took a test on whether I am right-brained or left-brained and not surprisingly, I am left-brain dominant. The test said:

Left brain dominant individuals are more orderly, literal, articulate, and to the point. They are good at understanding directions and anything that is explicit and logical. They can have trouble comprehending emotions and abstract concepts, they can feel lost when things are not clear, doubting anything that is not stated and proven.

Right brain dominant individuals are more visual and intuitive. They are better at summarizing multiple points, picking up on what's not said, visualizing things, and making things up. They can lack attention to detail, directness, organization, and the ability to explain their ideas verbally, leaving them unable to communicate effectively.

Overall you appear to be Left Brain Dominant

Spore

Anyone out there have Spore yet? I am getting my game tomorrow in the mail....however, I am going out of town this weekend until Wednesday, so won't be able to play for another week. How's that for timing?

Saturday, September 06, 2008

This was in my email today..........or yesterday.... it's from Writer's Digest.

Steve Berry's 8 Rules of Writing

At the 2008 Maui Writers Conference, bestselling thriller writer Steve Berry says there are eight key rules that all writers must know and follow:

1. There are no rules. You can do anything you want as long as it works.
2. Don't bore the reader. You can bore the reader in a sentence, in a paragraph, by misusing words, poorly choosing words, using the wrong length, etc.
3. Don't confuse the reader. Don't misuse point of view. Don't do too much at once.
4. Don't get caught writing. Don't let you, the author, enter the story. (E.g., "And he never would see Memphis again." How would anyone other than the author know that the character would never see Memphis again?)
5. Shorter is always better. Write tight. It makes you use the best words in the right way.
6. Don't lie to the reader. It's OK to mislead, but don't lie. If you say the character's motivation is A and it turns out to be B (and you haven't foreshadowed it at all), the reader will feel cheated.
7. Don't annoy the reader. Don't use names that are hard to pronounce or write choppy sentences throughout the entire book. It keeps people from getting close to your characters.
8. You must tell a good story. Bad writing can be forgiven with a good story. A bad story with the most beautiful writing cannot.

This is all great advice!

TouchPoint Songs(c)

Music is an important part of my life. There are some songs that just are such a core part of me, for good and for bad. Some I just think are magic, others I think are trash, but they are in me for a reason.

"Just Another Day" by Jon Secada is a song that makes me cry and makes me laugh all at the same time. I can't figure out if it hurts more than it makes me laugh. When I hear it, it takes me back to 1993 and 1994.... On the painful side, I'm back at Michael's Christmas Party.... what a great time we had! But the song played then and I remember listening to it then thinking about what a great group of people I was friends with....and we all worked together in the same department.

Mike was crazy funny. Average height and weight, curly brown hair, and a sense of humor that made you seriously wonder if he needed some psychiatric help. He'd walk up to people at work, stand there and look at them for a minute and then with a perfectly serious look on his face, ask "how's your feet?". Then when the victim, er, co-worker sat there trying to figure out whether he was really wondering how your feet were or whether you should call Security, Michael would burst out laughing and walk away.......One quickly learned about corns and bunions in preparation for the next time he'd ask. Of course, once he knew you'd caught on, he'd not ask you again. It was on to another question.

He was in our local theatre's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". For weeks, he'd sing "grovel, grovel, beg, borrow, steal" around the Data Center.

We teased him incessantly about the women in his life and what nationality he was dating that week. He loved that!

For the Christmas party thru work in 93, he posed with a tux on, a cigarette in one hand, and a glass of champagne in the other - ala "Rat Pack"... he would have fit in there well.

In June of 1994, on a Monday night, he and I closed up the Data Center for the night. We both had monthly reports to do and worked late to complete them. He said "See ya tomorrow!" and gave me a hug.

He didn't come in to work the next day. He and his girlfriend, a French lady who worked in another department, were murdered the night before. (hope you feel as guilty as you are, V.)

So, when I hear that song "Just Another Day", it takes me back to the days of wondering how my feet really are, enjoying our banter in the Data Center, and hearing all the gossip from the local theatre.

On the other hand, the song makes me remember one day either that fall or the following spring when my oldest daughter's high school had a "talent show". One senior decided to dedicate a song to his girlfriend, who I think I remember had just broken up with him. He decided to sing "Just Another Day" in Spanish to her. That would have been nice, except he couldn't sing. I mean, SERIOUSLY could not sing. Imagine if you will, a pre-teen boy who's voice is changing combined with a cat in the middle of a fight combined with Yoko Ono vocalizing anything. It was worse than that. It was so bad that I couldn't help but laugh until I was crying! Everyone was laughing.... but he had a GREAT Time! He didn't care - he was just on stage singing to his girlfriend. It's all good.

So, now when this song comes on the radio or on Sirius...I can't figure out whether to laugh or cry, so I usually end up doing both.

Are fast food places open on Labor Day?

I hope so, cuz I'm hungry. I think we'll go check out Sonic. I'm in the mood for tater tots... oh, but wait...you have to eat in the car, don't you? Never mind that........

Off on the hunt for fast food........

Meet the Newest Member of my Family!

Everyone, this is Misty!

Misty, this is Everyone!!!

Isn't she gorgeous? She came home with me Friday night and is just amazing! She's a 2009 Mazda 3 S-Grand Touring in galaxy grey. Leather seats, moonroof, bose speakers, 6-cd changer, front seats heat up (nice in our "winter"), and just drives amazingly well.

I'm keeping Skye, my 2004 Dodge Stratus, but will be selling it to my daughter once she is working full-time and can take care of the insurance and gas.

Hope you like the pics I took of Misty!

My Favorite Author and A Favorite Poem

This lovely poem was written on Monday, June 17, 2002, by my favorite author...Lysseus... Check out his blog - it's listed over there ---->>
--------------
Dance of the Pixies
Whirl and spin and roll them in
Round about the sprindle kin
Round about then o’er again!
Dance the merry Pixies

Fire flies in dead of night
Cast their shadows full of fright
Daemon eyes that drip delight
Dance the lightning maidens

Hoary faes upon the moors
Knock upon Demeter’s doors
Knock, and open ancient stores
Dance beneath the moonlight

Goblins of the fading day
As the light doth pass away
Slow to stir, their limbs to sway
Dance from out the shadows
--------------

Isn't that just lovely?

Eureka

Today is "Eureka" day! Woohoo! I love the TV Show on SciFi Channel....it's the only series on TV now that we watch. Boo for the summer. Maybe now I can actually get some more things written.

I did clean my desk off. And, I did upload my Ohio Photos! Here's a beautiful one:

Here's a friend I made...his name is Nick:
I've written him, but he's not written back. Sometimes those things just happen, I guess.
We're going out to Desert Hot Springs at the end of the month just to hang out in the pool and swim. My mom lives out there so we will see her, too.
Today was my youngest granddaughter's first day of school. I'm a VERY! Young Grandmother. VERY. Can't believe how fast time flies. I mean, seriously, in kindergarten already? Seems like yesterday she was born. Congrats, Christina! I love you!

My Poor Car

Ugh.......... Don't you hate car accidents?

It happened right outside a car dealer.... My daughter was driving and she's okay, but now her back and shoulder are starting to hurt. It was not her fault - the other driver pulled right out in front of her and she did all she could to avoid him.
...
The car is undrivable and was towed somewhere to be towed again on Monday to the repair shop. Everything happens on Friday afternoon. Every time.
...
I love the last picture. It's so poetic.
....
I just really cannot believe that the hood wasn't crumped. That's not the original one, either!! They must have put a super-massively strong one on the car.
...
The other car was hit behind the driver's door. He had to crawl out the passenger window. Everyone is okay, tho. But his car was really crumpled in! And my car looks ALOT worse in person.
....
Sigh. Looks like I'll have to be driving a rental car for awhile.

Wondering about "Hammer"....

A baker is one who bakes.......

A cobbler is one who cobbles...........

A fiddler is one who fiddles.......

Why isn't a hammer one who hams?

Creating God in your Own Image

They say that Man was created in God's image. I've read on a website: "Don’t make the mistake of creating God in your own image, you were created in God’s own image. You are the object of the Heavenly Father’s love—so much so that He created you in His very own likeness."

In "Bird by Bird", Anne Lamott talks about how nobody sits down and writes elegant first drafts. But then she mentions that she does know ONE person who does, but she and her friends do not like her very much. They do not think (and I quote) that she has a rich inner life or that God likes her or can even stand her.

What is funny is that she says that she mentioned this to her priest friend Tom. She said that he said that "you can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do."

Whether or not that is an actual true exchange doesn't matter. What matters is that this is another prime example of the fineness of Anne Lamott's writing. It's probably one of the funniest lines I've read in a long time (excluding anything from "Pearls Before Swine" or on the show "Eureka").

There are all sorts of more esoterical questions around whether God really created us in his image and I am not going to get into it at all.... but I wonder just how much of religion is based on individuals creating God in our their image? Interesting question, is it not?

Bird by Bird

I bought this book awhile ago, and just "found" it again. I buy a lot of books and don't read them just because I put them "somewhere" and then forget about it. I also spend a lot of time on the computer and unfortunately, I cannot read and play games/read blogs/news/etc. at the same time. I know.......it's a malfunction.

Anyhow, this book was great. I've not read all of it yet, but just the intro and the first chapter taught me wonderful things such as the fact that I am not the only insane writer in the universe. She's almost as nuts as I am. Or, I'm almost as nuts as she is. Whichever works. But, it's a good nuts. Really.

The first thing that truly inspired me was the concept of writing about what you can see through a 1" picture frame. That really made things clear - I get overwhelmed when I think in terms of "a whole novel", or, "a whole how-to guide". Keeping it contained in a 1" frame is EXACTLY what I need to do and I'm grateful to Anne Lamott for writing this down in this book. And, I'm thankful that Borders had this book, and I'm grateful for Kevin for mentioning it was a good book.

Recent Movies

We went and saw "Hancock" last weekend. I thought it was good. Will Smith is likable, no matter how bad he tries to play. I still like "Independance Day" the best, tho. I wasn't much into "Men in Black", unlike 99% of the rest of the American population.

Also saw "Wall-E". What a disappointment! I thiought it was too long and too preachy. Do all cartoons now have to have something to do with being 'green' (and I'm not talking Kermit here)? They did that with a couple other movies, too. I like "Toy Story" and "Finding Nemo". There's no way that "Wall-E" will be rated that high in my book.

I just had someone say to me "It better be worth my time to read" after I mentioned that I was writing in my blog. Can you blog in prison? Just wondering.............

Anyhow, we also saw "Wanted". This was not in the same weekend. I like "Wanted" better than "Wall-E" for two reasons.
  1. Angelina Jolie was in "Wanted".
  2. Eve tended to sound like she was whining when she said "Wallllllll-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE".
  3. That scene when the car got flipped the car over and the guy shot the man thru the open sunroof was AWESOME. Man! The stunts were amazing!

Not sure what movie I'm looking forward to now. I was so excited about "Wall-E" and was so disappointed.............. Maybe I'll just stick to television. My two REALLY can't waits are:

  1. The last few "Dr. Who" episodes. I know what happens and all I can say is ..."wow".
  2. EUREKA on July 29th on the Sci-FI channel. This is my favorite show of all time ever. And I'm old (I can remember when "Mr. Ed" had new episodes on...so you know I'm old). I will blog about it...........when the time is right.

Songs that are just so beautiful

There are some songs that are just so beautiful, they make me cry. One was just on: "Bridge over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkle. The final part of the song comes back so strong and so honest that it just brings tears to my eyes.

There are several others, for many reasons, that bring me to tears, but won't talk about those here.

Another song that is just perfect is "Classical Gas" by Mason Williams. There's not a thing wrong with that song - not a bad note, not an instrument out of place, nuthin'.

This one is a little strange to put on my "list", but "Kentucky Rain" by Elvis. It was written by Eddie Rabbitt who died a few years ago. I guess that doesn't fall into this catagory, but it's really one that just moves me.

Listen Up!

Wow. I heard a snippet on NPR Saturday morning about a singer named "Danielia Cotton".

Question - does it make me sound more intelligent when I said I had listened to NPR? Just wondering....

Anyhow, I was so impressed with her singing that I rushed out to Amazon and ordered her new CD - "Rare Child". I just received it today and have listened to almost all of it. I had to interrupt myself to rush over here and blog about it!!

Peeps, do yourself a favor and listen to "Testify" and "Rare Child". They are AMAZING.

I have no idea where this woman came from, where's she's been, or anything about her. I just heard a little bit of "Let it Ride" last Saturday and I was hooked.

She is HIGHLY recommended! 5 stars and a huge "WOO HOO"....

Eyes under my bags

You know, some people really get upset about bags under their eyes. I always think they just need more sleep. I'm not sure I've ever thought "OMG - Look at those BAGS! Would you just LOOK at those bags?" If someone had perpetuation state of bags-under-the-eyes-itis, I'd just probably advise them to get more sleep and perhaps use some sliced cucumbers to refresh the eyes. Course, you run the risk of dreaming about Tiny Tim singing "Tip Toe thru the Salad, thru the carrots, we'll stroll along...", but you would might have less bagginess the next morning.

I'd be more concerned with eyes under my bags. Especially if my bags were in the closet. If I opened the door to get one, and I saw eyes, I'd be worried.

Getting back to bags under the eyes, that could be useful. If they were zip-lock bags, you could store your tears and then when your eyes got dry, you could just cut the corner off and use REAL tears - not artificial ones. Much healthier, don't you think?

You could also save all of the eyelashes you shed and then sell them to people who make fake eyelashes. Just think - your eyelash could be on Britney someday!

Sunday Comics

It's not Sunday, but this is a great strip from yesterday: (Hope this link works)

http://www.comics.com/comics/pearls/archive/pearls-20080525.html

I love this cartoon. It's amazingly funny. This comes close to the story arc about Pig's enemy, the sea anemone. That was the best thing I think I've ever read.

SO i just went to Amazon.com to look and see if there are any "Pearls Before Swine" books for their Kindle Reader (I have one - thanks Kev!), and they have a prophecy book for $240 for sale. In looking at the reviews, it looks like one guy thought this was the comic strip and was warning people that it isn't...........for $240, I'd expect the cartoonist to draw me my own book with my cats in it!!

I just ordered the book with a few of the anemone strips in them. I'm sure it is copywrited material so when I get it, I'll just post the highlights.

Enjoy. And read Pearls daily. It's good for your health!

By the way....

Three months until my Birthday!!! I like SPARKLY THINGS.

Zania Fever

I'm listening to "Young Frankenstein" - the musical - on Sirius. I'm at the "Transylvania Mania" song right now. I've never heard this before. Seen the movie, didn't know there was a play. Makes me want to join a chorus line somewhere.... At the very least, I may have to see what's available CD-wise for this. How can you get better than this? Broadway music...gotta love it...(I'm a woman so I can say that without fear)

The other writing workshop we were going to go to was cancelled. The author of "God of War" was going to present it. The topic was "setting". That's something I have a hard time with. I can do conversations just fine, but I hate writing narrative. But, it was cancelled so I'll just have to struggle with this some more.

We bought an ice tea maker. This is like my 5th one in my lifetime. This one I finally noticed that they tell you up-front that the pitcher is not dishwasher-safe. You'd think I would have learned after the first time I disfigured one. I kept forgetting to wash by hand. So anyway, this one is pretty cool. The maker uses either bags or loose tea and you put it in a basket INSIDE the tea maker! Whoa! It was such a pain putting the tea in that little basket over the pitcher. Now I get to put it in the maker. Out of sight is out of mind. Now I don't have to worry about it until the next time I make tea. Plus now the pitcher fits really neatly into the maker. You don't have to slide it next to it anymore.

The added benefit is that my Siamese cat, Kynan, loves to watch the water drip into the pitcher. Instant Cat Entertainment!

If there is anyone out there reading this, leave me a comment or two... would love feedback. But keep it positive and with extremely gratuitous complements. (In the words of the great Randy Jackson.... "just keepin' it real, dawg!"....)

History of Rock and Roll

The local radio station here is playing the history of rock and roll. It's some syndicated show, so guess it's pretty much on everywhere. Ray Charles is on at the moment.

So, my boss was on CNN and NBC today. It's been an interesting week for our company. We'll be okay. Just gotta fight the big guys for awhile.

Ah, one of my favorite songs..."You Send Me"... honest you do, honest you do, honest you do.

What? What? WHAT?

I love Dr. Who.

Actually, I love having Donna with the Doctah more. She's amazing and SO much better of a match for him than that Rose. Go Donna. Conquer the Universe. You know you wanna.

I really cannot believe I haven't written in this since January. How did that happen? Well, I've been super busy.

We went to a writing seminar on Saturday called "Writing while you breathe" or "Breathing while writing" or "Breathing and it's affect on your body", or something like that. We had to stand up and breathe and then shake and then pound on our legs. After that, we got to sit down and write while keeping one hand on our friend, Ms. Belly. Or Mr. Belly, depending on the seminar participant. It was a bit more involved than that, but honestly, I don't remember the sequence of events. I just remember wondering if Kevin was going to write and if he'd let me read what he'd written. He wrote a little and I have not read it. It looked more like his list of to-do items to me....heh....

I did write a lot. Once I finish it, I'll post it here. :) Of course, "a lot" is subjective. I wrote a lot for me especially after I didn't think I'd be able to write anything. Another participant wrote about 3 novels. She was constantly flipping pages.

I was on a roll at one point. Words were flying out of my pen and getting written down on the page - it was fun and fluid and real and exciting and it was "magical"...and then........the seminar leader said "Relax your jaw!"....and it stopped. My hand wanted to curl up into a fist and strike something, cause I just lost concentration. I never really did get it back no matter how much I breathed or how deeply.

The good news out of all this is that I am still breathing. Yes, 4 days after the seminar and still yet, I breathe.

Funny Friday

Yes, that was a long post earlier....but it was worth it.

Just when you think that it's safe to be at work....... along comes someone who "writes" their own jokes.

Here's a few.....

Q: How do you make a monkey spit?
A: Put a stick thru it.

Q: How do you make a rabbit spit?
A: Put a stick thru it.

Okay, okay, pull yourself together..... there's more!!

Q: How do you make a sushi roll?
A: Push it down the hill.

Good stuff, eh? Can you handle another??? ....I think you can!...

I'm not going to add the one about the German Farmer....That'll have to be saved as an encore.... we're going to skip to the end....

Q: How do you make a sled go smokin' fast?
A: Light it on fire.

Ha. HA HA.

And this is "working in paradise".......

Just to make my own contribution to the humor effort:

Q: What do you call it when a cowboy marries a cowgirl?
A: A Western Union.

Hoppy Friday, Peeps!

Thufferin' Thunday

I have been remiss on my blogging and not writing in it is not something I want to continue. I want to keep this going! I look at my blog and wonder what I will say next. I log on and never know quite what is going to come out of the session. I admire those people with a purpose.

Today, I'm reflecting. I've always been the type of person who likes to believe what I hear as opposed to hearing what isn't there. It's becoming more and more clear to me that this has probably been the biggest cause of the failures that I've had in my life. To some, that seems quite obvious and they won't be able to understand why I am how I am. "You should look at actions more than words!"... yes, agreed. Now I know that.

I am not going to go into any more detail. I'm just going to go put together jigsaw puzzles on club pogo for awhile.

See everyone tomorrow.

New Blogger Languages

Our cats are agitated. One saw that Blogger now offers "Persian" as a language choice and reported it to the other cats.

Kynan, our Siamese, is offended because "Siamese" was not offered. Thunder is a Maine Coon and naturally he feels that his dialect consistently get neglected. Topaz, the little female calico, doesn't care one way or the other. She's just here to be adored and get her ears scratched.

Kynan thinks Siamese Cats should rule the world. Thunder just simply rules. He's the most stubborn cat I have ever had and he lets everyone know it's his way or else.

Anyhow, Kynan is over the on my laptop penning a note to Blogger right this very second.

Time for Wednesday

Ever noticed that period during the day where every minute feels like hours? Usually for me, it's right around 3pm-4pm. Once it hits 4pm, the rest of the day just flies by.

I don't like 11:30am to Noon, either. It's not fair to that half-hour, but it just bothers me. No, nothing radical happened to me at that time one day. It's just annoying.

Why did Mick Jagger feel that Time is on his Side? Did he explain that in the song? Let me go google the lyrics. Hold on.

Ah. Okay.

He's going to sit and wait for some chick to come running back to him. Cuz he's got the real love, the kind that she needs. Yeah, right.

Then we have the song "Time Has Come Today". Here's a sample verse:

The rules have changed today (Hey)
I have no place to stay (Hey)
I'm thinking about the subway (Hey)
My love has flown away (Hey)
My tears have come and gone (Hey)
Oh my Lord, I have to roam (Hey)
I have no home (Hey)
I have no home (Hey)

The chorus says that basically, he's got nowhere to run to and he might get burned up by the sun, but hey, he's been loved. However, his soul's been psychedelicized. If that's true, then why's he thinking about the subway? He said he's got nowhere to run to and no place to stay, so he can't be planning to live there. Is he going to use it to roam? Can you roam on a subway? Did his love fly away on the subway? I'm puzzled.

Speaking of time, let's look at Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle". I have a question.

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that Id like to do
Is to save every day
Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

I'm wondering if he saves Day One in the Bottle, what happens when he tries to add Day Two to it? Does Day One escape? We have to assume it doesn't because he plans to spend them at a later point in time. Are Day One and Day Two ad infinitum different densities? Wouldn't they mix up in one bottle? And it's gotta be a pretty big bottle for an eternity of days. How do they stay in order? And.........when is he going to spend them - cuz if he's waiting for eternity to pass, he's gonna be waiting a long, long time.

And, how can we forget these immortal lyrics to the Monkee's song "No Time":

Hobber, reeber, sabosoben, hobber, seeber, sneck,
Seeber, rabber, hobbersoben, what did you expect?
No time, (No time, no time at all)
No time for you. (No time, no time at all)
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do. (No time, no time at all)

On that note, it's time for me to go to bed.

Let My Peephole Go

I wasn't expecting it.

"American Idol" is still entertaining. There were the bad singers, yeah, but there were some really touching stories, too! Sigh. I really was happy that the woman with the daughter who has Rhett's Syndrome sung well. I have to admit that I did tear up over her getting her Golden Ticket to Hollywood. It would have been awful if she had not have sung well.

But the judges were still getting warmed up, I guess. Paula was so low key tonight and Simon was sweet. Randy was, well, Randy. He only used "dawg" once tonight that I noticed.

I did read early on the names of the people who made it past the Hollywood Week but it's not like I remember them. Actually, the only one I do remember is the chicky from Miami Sound Machine just because I actually went to YouTube and watched her sing. I think she's going to do really well. Not sure it's fair that she's there. She must not have a contract right now, but she is certainly a professional.

There were a couple of surprises for me. First, Taylor's backup singer making it thru to Hollywood. Both Kev and I were like "HUH?". It was not a good sign so early on. Thank Goodness the show redeemed itself. Maybe the judges figured they needed someone who could be voted off soon and they wouldn't have to feel bad about it.

Second. Neither one of us thought we'd see anyone who made William Hung look like Frank Sinatra. "Let my people go", indeed. I'm not sure if a medical malady was involved or not, and if so, I heartily apologize, but to me, it looked like the tip of the guy's tongue was attached to the roof of his mouth.

The "Never watched an R-rated movie" woman was refreshing. She sounds like she's got principles and morals and ethics. When is THAT shoe going to drop? Hmmm? I hope she's what she portays herself as being. Lettuce hope. (heh...)

Today's Spin Result

Wheel of Food Life,
spin, spin, spin.

I spun the "Wheel of Food Life" today and it landed on Lettuce.

For lunch, I had a garden salad which consisted of...lettuce, teeny carrot strips, tomato, cucumbers (thinly sliced), croutons, and grilled chicken topped with a nice dressing Romancing the Bean likes to call "champagne vinagrette". It was free for me because I was nice enough to sit through another meeting chaired by the same person as who did the marathon meeting from yesterday. I got a lot of work done while I was in there. None of which related to the topic of the meeting, but it was a safe, quiet place where I could focus on my work and not be interrupted too often. I get annoyed when others do that in MY meetings so I suppose I should expect some cosmic payback at some near point in time.

I digress.

So yeah, it was like....lettucey.

Guess what I had for dinner?

beef stew?

No!

chicken pot pie?

No!

turtle soup?

Oh! So CLOSE!

But...............................NO!

Salad!!!! I had Salad!!! I know, like who'd have thought? This salad had fruit in it and slices of either chicken or turkey. I'm hoping it wasn't turkey, because I really don't like sliced turkey. This was all covered in a yogurt dressing so that combined with the apples, oranges and pineapple and sliced almonds didn't leave much room for the meat-taste to shine thru. 'Sides, I was watching "American Idol" and wasn't paying attention to what I was eating. And, it had a lot of lettuce in it, too, of several different varieties.

At least it was colorful.

Funday Monday

Okay, so like, that's what we call Mondays at work because we get catered lunches. Every week it's a different cuisine. Today, we had salad with lettuce, tomato wedges, onion strips, mushrooms, croutons, cucumbers, and a choice of either ranch or vinagrette. That's standard every week. The rest of our free lunch included steamed veggies, fried rice, and orange chicken with a fortune cookie for dessert. My fortune was something about everyone around me holding me in high regard. I think it should have been everyone around me is high cuz sometimes I just can't figure out what the hell they are doing. Or thinking. Nah, they are not that bad. Well, not most of them at least.

Today we also had a marathon meeting that went from 1pm to 4pm, then hopped into another meeting from 4:00 to 4:30, then back to the other meeting which was finally over at 7:30pm. See what I mean about everyone being high? On what planet was THAT a good idea? There were some good things that came out of it, but I'm afraid that we've agreed to provide service to french poodles who's owners are named Lionel and Louise. Guess we'll find out when we've had enough rest to read our notes.

Anyhow, dinner calls. It's 9:40pm.

My Friend at his Computer

Here's a photo I took of my friend, Kev, at his computer. It turned out really well...

Space: Above and Beyond

So, I bought a DVD set last week. It's the complete series of "Space: Above and Beyond". So far, the only successful person in the cast is James Morrison who went on to play Bill Buchanan on "24".

The series is pretty good. It's the story of a team of 5 people; members of the USMC in the year 2063. The Future Bill Buchanan plays their CO. You have the usual suspects - the tough guy/outsider, the woman leader whose parents were murdered by bad guys, the smart Asian, and the token African-American female. The stories are interesting and make sense. No leaps of faith on this show - if people are bad, they are bad for a reason. Team-man-ship and comraderie is key and that's nice.

There are 6 DVDs in the set, and I've made it throught 2. I'm going back for the rest. I don't know if it's on Netflix or not, but if it is, watch a few episodes. It's pretty good!

Sunday after a long time away

This whole idea of blogging is a bit strange. I can't say anything about it that hasn't been said before....but it always strikes me how putting your thoughts out for the whole world to read is just really rather strange. Who would care about my thoughts? Would anyone subscribe to my blog? What's my "hook"? I haven't got one....my blog is just ...... my blog.

I wish it was easy to say "Hey World! My blog is out here now - go read it!". I'm afraid readership of my blog will be small - my own personal world is small and my thoughts are smaller still.

I will endeavor to update this pretty much every day, if only to say "I'm still here". Unfortunately, I know me and it'll be posted to only if it bubbles to the top of my brain. Good luck on that.

Anyhow, thanks to anyone who's reading this. Drop me a note if you are, if you want.
